GAYATRI & SARASWATI

with Andrew Mournehis

Friday 17th November 2017
7pm – 9pm
Saraswati is the beloved Hindu Goddess of knowledge, music, arts, wisdom and learning.  She embodies the concepts of intelligence, consciousness, creativity, education, enlightenment and power.  Saraswati is recognised in the flow of fertile energy when an artist or creator becomes an open vessel to allow creative life force to flow through, sparking insight, inspiration, creation and artistic expression.

She is the main muse of artists.

Gayatri, often depicted with 5 heads, is an aspect of Ma Saraswati, Ma Lakshmi and Ma Parvati.  She is concerned with our dharma, life purpose or spiritual growth, and whispers into our ears intuitive wisdom.
Do  you hear the sweet intuitive voice within calling you?

Come join us as we connect to our Inner Knowledge, Creativity, Wisdom, and Learning through the arts with Gayatri and SaraswatiLearn about the distinction and connection between these two creative expressions of Shakti, and how we can utilise their unique powers in our lives.

Philosophy Afternoons

THE TEN MAHAVIDYAS
Ten Tantric Goddesses Of Great Wisdom

with Andrew Mournehis

Sundays 14th & 21st May, 2017
1pm – 4pm

The Desa (Ten) Mahavidyas are the most revered Tantric Goddesses giving expression to our Highest Truth.

To embrace and honour the major challenges in life, and welcome the Delights and Pleasures, out of the 100’s of Goddesses in Hinduism, Ten were assigned to Tantra… a Stunning Sacred Path of Creative Consciousness that brings Awakening, Love, and Life to the Art of Living.

The Divine Expression of Shakti is always channeled through the Power of the Goddess within us, and we can allow this Presence in Her 10 Expressions to guide, teach and illuminate our Path… CONSCIOUSLY!!!

Here is a glimpse of the power of the Goddesses:

  • Benevolent and Ferocious Kali Slays and Transforms our Fears and Darkest Demons into Love, Wisdom and Radiant Light.
  • The Self Decapitating Chinnamasta, surrenders to her primal hungers and inner cries for pleasure, and in honouring her Sexuality and Dreams, allows her Creative juices to flow.
  • The Fierce Beloved Bhairava has the revelations of Wisdom that come through direct experience of the Divine Shiva … she delights in the small and seemingly mundane acts transforming our perception to see the shimmering Presence of Source in everything.
  • Dhumavati is the Widow Goddess and the keeper of Sorrows, Grief, Disappointment, Death and Despair… she brings a depth and shades of grey to the wisdom of the spectrum of human experience in the tapestry of Life.
  • The Divine Kamala (The Tantric Lakshmi) brings untold blessings and abundance into our lives through the Grace of Her Generosity.

We will be exploring all ten goddesses and how we can have a conversation and intimate relationship with them…through our embodiment of them and deep union, their wisdom moves through us and revelation lifts the heavy shroud of ignorance and concealment.  The Mundane becomes sacred…the pattern and pain suddenly has meaning and we set ourselves free from the bondage of our own enslavement through the realisation of the Truth.

The Auspicious Ones

Sunday April 23rd, 2017
1pm – 4pm

with Andrew Mournehis

Auspicious: blessed by success, prosperous, favourable or full of promise.

It is common to see Lakshmi, Saraswati and Ganesha depicted together…
Certainly their union and collaborative energy is potent, powerful and filled with good fortune, success and blessings …but why??

Lakshmi is the Goddess of abundance, prosperity and wealth.
Saraswati is the Goddess of skill, knowledge, music and arts.
Ganesha is the God of success, good fortune and wisdom.

You may be curious about the relationship between them…
There are some beautiful Tales and Myths surrounding their union and the power they bring together, and I look forward to sharing these with you and the relevance their teachings have for us today.

So during this afternoon we will unpack and explore:
– Each of the deities individually
– Why the three are so often depicted together
– Why Lakshmi is truly blessed to have Ganesha by her side and why this Dynamic Duo are also found in many Pujas and Images.
– What is the Power of the Trinity compared to each one’s individual power?
– What blessings can the trinity bring to YOUR life?

Bring a Journal and a Pen and give yourself this wonderful afternoon to bring great blessings into your life.
Come embrace the power of three and immerse yourself in the potent energy of the auspicious ones.

One of the most Auspicious Goddesses in the Hindu tradition from which Yoga originates, Goddess Lakshmi is revered for Her boundless abundant ENERGY!

“I have honoured the great Goddess for many years and have a large statue in my home and since learning and aligning with her Grace, so many extraordinary and wonderful things have manifested in my life.”

Yoga Philosophy Workshop

History Of  Yoga

Mullumbimby – Byron Bay Shire

Sunday 9th April 2017
1pm – 4pm

with Andrew Mournehis

Join us as we unpack and explore the timeline of yoga, reaching back as far as the Sramanas (“those who sat amongst the trees”) who were believed to be the first yogis in the Harappan Civilisation in 5000-2500BC. Ancient artefacts were discovered from this time that depict figures in yoga poses and postures, some believed to resemble Lord Shiva ( Our First Yogi) and Parvati (His First Student/Disciple) performing various asanas and practicing meditation.  It was at this time that yoga emerged in some form or another, and through the ages it progressed, shifted and changed in various ways to become what it is today.

We will delve deep into yoga’s rich and diverse history, exploring the ancient texts of the Vedas, the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita and the Yoga Sutras, revealing and following the thread between all these periods and their relevance to us today.

This one day lecture/workshop would be perfect for yoga teachers but can be embraced by yoga practitioners who are simply wanting to deepen their understanding of their practice, history and philosophy and access the wisdom of the ages. We will also chant a couple of truly transformative mantras from some of these potent periods.
We hope you can join us for this illuminating afternoon!

5 Sundays –  June 5th to December 5th 2016

THE HEALING POWERS OF YOGA

December 5th 2016

1pm – 5pm

**Please note that there has been a date change for this workshop!  It will now run on Sunday December 4th instead of November 13th.  This will be our final edition of the Mentorship Series for 2016, but stay tuned for more next year!**

Four Great Healing Paths have informed my Yoga Journey for the past 20 years, and each one of those holds distinct, unique and powerful healings treasures. Hatha, Tantra, Jnana and Bhakti Yoga, combined provide extraordinary keys and gifts for unlocking the greatest potential within us all, and allow us to access and utilize the true healing powers of yoga.  These create a long and healthy life, a strong vibrant body, a sharpened clear mind, an open pure heart and an ever expanding state of Consciousness that ultimately frees the Soul.  There is also a fifth path which we will explore in our mentoring session which provides us with access to deep healing.

Through a multitude of different healing practices such as mudra, mantra, pranayama, yantra, visualization, ritual, invocation, affirmation, meditation, contemplation and deep energetic exploration, as yoga practitioners and teachers we can dive deep into our bodies, through the layers of our minds and into the more subtle layers of our Etheric field… through the five koshas, we can access one of the greatest healing resources within, far greater than any healing resource on the planet.  Do you know what that is?

Come share in this Deep Exploration of the Healing Powers Of Yoga and not only offer yourself this gift of Love, but then share this with your students, peers and Spiritual Yoga Family.

It will be a Priceless gift to share!

“I came to yoga through personal crisis and injury, and have intimately explored for the past 20 years, the power of healing that yoga brings. I hold complete trust and faith in its power, potency and potential, to heal not only the body, but also mental afflictions, traumas, addictions, deep emotional wounds and places that we have difficulty accessing in everyday life. Yoga brings to the surface these areas that are in need of our Love and Attention and the practices provide the space, nourishment and a healing balm to the Body, Heart, Mind and Soul” – Andrew Mournehis

Aimed at yoga teachers, our intention with the Mentorship Series is to work alongside the growing Melbourne Teaching Community, offering guidance, insights and training from a combined 35 years of yoga teaching experience.  During our Teaching career, we experience cycles that unfold within our life, and are usually very reflective of the themes we choose for our classes, the insights and wisdom that present themselves and the experiences that may overwhelm or ‘trigger’ us during teaching. This series for Yoga Teachers explores the ability to be present with your students in your natural state. To bring a level of self assurance when teaching your classes, and reminding us of the ability to trust the process that unwinds for both the teacher & the student.

Some skills we hope you walk away with from the series include:
* Determining your definition of the characteristics of a yoga teacher
* Pinpointing moments that throw you off your game when teaching and how to overcome these obstacles
* The ability to utilise all experiences within the class as material for everyone in the room to benefit from
* Get to the heart of your current theme’s that is showing up both as a teacher and within your life

The Healing Gifts of Hanuman

Friday 11th November 2016

7:30 – 9:30pm

Philosophy evenings are back!
Friday nights with Andrew Mournehis

As yoga slips into the mainstream, there is an increasing focus on the physical practice, and the various dimensions of this fascinating philosophy are being left out. We’re missing the wisdom that has tremendous relevance to our daily lives. Lycra-clad Yoga Aerobics classes are in vogue. Don’t get me wrong – the physical postures and sequences are fab, so are some of the outfits… but our physical practice can be so very much more when it is grounded in the ideas that birthed these forms.  The fact that Yoga is a wonderfully rich collection of ideas on how to connect more deeply with ourselves and our environment is fading.  Yoga is full of delicious philosophy, mythology, provocative suggestions and perspectives.  I say, let’s bring this conversation back!

Join us in this final evening of the series – The Healing Gifts of Hanuman
Our Beloved Fierce Humble Warrior, Lord Hanuman, once cursed for his powers and innate healing abilities, loses all recollection and memory of how truly powerful he is.Through this temporary amnesia, his loss of power and meaning leads him into the forest where he meets his Beloved Lord Rama, who has had his Divine Lover Sita abducted by a demonic Force, Ravana. Prince Rama approaches the monkey tribe looking for help. Although Hanuman is initially distrustful, he sees how virtuous and peaceful the young prince is, and is determined to let nothing stand between him and saving the princess.Through a profound love of duty, devotion and a call to service, Hanuman is awakened to a newfound remembrance of his healing gifts, powers and abilities with the help of his elders and Monkey tribe.  He is filled with a reawakened sense of fearlessness, strength and purpose. On his journey to rescue Sita he demonstrates Superhuman abilities and incredible feats of strength which empower him to overcome the evil demons. These powers and gifts extend into untapped healing resources such as mantra, sound, chanting, medicine, herbs and elixirs which soothe, heal and bathe those parts of himself and his Beloved Spiritual Family from the wounds of their battle.  These gifts revive them and allow those damaged, wounded and traumatised parts to be renewed, and all to be reunited in the deepest, most honourable space of Gratitude, Celebration and Love. What demons do you need to overcome?
What wounded parts of yourself would you heal with Courage, Humility and Love?
What abilities, powers and gifts will you uncover when you offer yourself with deep devotion to a higher calling?

Join us as we unpack and explore the timeline of yoga, reaching back as far as the Sramanas (“those who sat amongst the trees”) who were believed to be the first yogis in the Harappan Civilisation in 5000-2500BC.  Ancient artefacts, ceramics and soapstone seals have been discovered from this time that depict figures in yoga poses and postures, some believed to resemble Lord Shiva and Parvati performing various asanas and practicing meditation. This one day lecture would be perfect for yoga teachers but can be embraced by yoga practitioners who are simply wanting to deepen their understanding of their practice, history and philosophy and access the wisdom of the ages.  We will also chant a couple of truly transformative mantras from some of these potent periods.
We hope you can join us for this illuminating afternoon!

Saturday, September 24 2016    Sunday, September 25 2016

After a beautiful and successful weekend workshop on the Gold Coast, this event has been requested here in Melbourne, and we’re happy to oblige again!!

The Hindu and Yogic Myths have been passed down for centuries and are filled with Great Wisdom, Light, and Truth, still relevant today,  emphasising Universal messages of Hope, Union, Power, Service, Happiness and Love.

During the “Bringing Myths to Life” workshop we will exploring the Mythological Tales in Yoga and the ways in which we can translate their messages into our present day living. We will unpack the various integral and pivotal Gods and Goddesses, there qualities, gifts, weaknesses/flaws and Divine Archetypal attributes that express themselves through us.

Philosophy Evenings

with Andrew Mournehis

July philosophy eveningThe Alchemy of Kali

Friday July 8th 2016

THEME for 8th July: THE ALCHEMY OF KALI
At the most profound level, Kali represents the inner fire of the coiled serpent energy, Kundalini Shakti, lying dormant at the base of the spine in the subtle body of every human being. Through persistent practice, intense encounters with suffering, or blinding love for the divine, the serpent power arises and unfolds, purifying, cutting away doubt and ignorance, burning sloth and attachment, and driving the soul to union with its highest being as Lord Shiva. The union of these two, Shiva and Shakti, brings waves of unimaginable bliss, light and the vision of one’s own true nature as the boundless self of all.Despite her negative connotations, Kali is considered the Goddess of Change and Transformation. She slays the demons of ego, ignorance, selfishness, jealousy, prejudice, hatred, anger, ego and tamas (sleepiness / heaviness / darkness). Her alchemy changes darkness into light, fear into love, and chaos into order.Kali’s severed head represents the the destruction of limited understanding to reveal unconditional reality, and complete renunciation of the ego which keeps us bound to limited possibilities. Her black complexion symbolizes her all-embracing and transcendental nature. Kali is free from the illusory covering, for she is beyond all maya or “false consciousness.” This frightening yet compelling image forces us to contemplate the nature of death and desire, the chains that must be broken to attain a true understanding of reality. The sacred tale of Devi Mahatmya recounts not only the creation of Kali, but the many manifestations and transformational guises that Kali takes in her great alchemy of Love. Come explore this alchemy with us in this month’s Philosophy Evening.”It is said if we can look deeply into the eyes of Kali she transforms all darkness into great beauty, love and light.”
